If you have had the horrific experience of been involved in a road
traffic accident that was not your fault, you may be entitled to
compensation. You don't have to be the driver of the car to make a
claim. You can make a claim if you were a passenger, a pedestrian or a
cyclist involved in an accident if your are not responsible. It is
also possible to claim if you are a relative of a person that dies in
a traffic accident.
If you have been involved in a RTA here are some guidelines:
Get the name, address and telephone of the other person involved in
the accident.
Get the registration number and insurance details of the other
vehicle. It's especially important to note the insurance policy number
and insurance company
Report the accident to the Police and if possible wait
for them to arrive. They may have to give evidence and
it will be beneficial if they have seen the position of
the vehicles after the collision. Police often do sketches
of the accident but just to be sure, if you have a camera
or camera phone take photos of the accident yourself.
Take the names of any witnesses to your accident and their addresses
Never discuss the accident with the other person. Be polite but never
admit liability
Please ensure that you never leave the scene of the accident until you
have full name, insurance and registration details
Go to a Doctor or to Hospital if this is deemed necessary
